scoring matters

Learning to play mj has always been hard on several levels. There are many rules, both game play and scoring. Most players start with game play, which makes perfect sense, and then ease into scoring. Personally, I find that the long way to becoming an advanced player. Without considering scoring, players begin formulating strategy based on simply winning. Yes, players do need to be familiar with game play rules, but advanced strategy is about maximizing your score. As players learn scoring rules, they are incorporating how to adjust their basic strategy.

However, once a player has formed basic strategy, players tend to stick with the familiar instead of taking a big step back, look over all the scoring rules, and then with a clean slate, formulate a strategy to maximize their score. Until someone rigorously analyzes the probabilities of the scoring rules, experience remains as the best teacher. Play more!

Towards that end, MJ build 031 now incorporates all scoring rules. You should be able to verify the scoring rules applied to your hand. Especially now with a minimum AI opponent level, you can experiment in going for the highest scores. Next steps will be the AI opponent.
