Meteorologist Classic version 1.7 has been officially released. [Meteorologist Classic now resides in its own SourceForge project area.] Please go to the new location for more details. Thanks to all the supporters and bug reporters!
Thnx! for continuing.
Hello, thank you for your effort, but I’m sorry, Meteorologist-1.7.03 don’t work on mac os x 1.5.8.
It shows the word “loading…” but immediatly after the application quits.
Sorry, but 1.7.03 shows “loading”, but no icon or clickable spot results. Using 10.6.8.
Thanks Jerry for your Effort.
It is GREAT to know that there are still GOOD PEOPLE LIKE YOU in the Mac developer community…!!!
I have been, for a long time a faithful and regular user of Meteorologist 1.6.1 in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8.
Due to the instability of later Mac OSX systems (when compared with Mac OSX 10.6.8), I do not intend to leave (upgrade) Mac OSX 10.6.8 as my operating system. Furthermore, Mac OSX 10.6.8 was the last Mac OS containg Roseta, which is essential for me since I still have a lot of running programs written in the PPC era.
My Meteorologist 1.6.1 stopped updating the weather some weeks ago.
In order to recover (resurret) Meteorologist 1.6.1 to work again, I suppose you may try using OpenWeatherMap.org, instead of Weathercom.
Keep up the GOOD WORK !
Paulo Gali Macedo
I’ ve tried your Meteorologist-1.7.03 in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8, and it crashed on start.
The Crash Log was the following:
[Deleted. Log files are welcome from anyone, but please email them to me instead of attaching to your comment, thanks!]
Merci
Cette fois tout fonctionne correctement [Meteorologist-1.7.0 (13)]
Bravo et merci !
GREAT…!!! Things are improving fast…!!!
I Tried Meteorologist-1.7.0 (7) in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8.
It already starts alright and sets up the UI, although, on trying to change the cities (since the existing ones were set for weather.com…), after removing a few, it crashed and I was unable to restart it again.
The crash log is below this text.
Congratulations! Keep up the GOOD WORK !
Thank you for the program , I use since 2009, there is no better your program , works well in 10.11.1
Glad for the return of functionality. However I get no icons anywhere, but the appicatoin icon in the menu bar.
No icon for the current conditions in the menubar, and the extended forecast icons are nowhere.
Deleted “com.heat.meteo.plist” for version 7 and it is now working.
Thank you. (OS X 10.6.8 Mac Pro 1,1)
Thank you. Installed Meteorologist-1.7.0 (7) on MacOS 10.11.1. After trashing the original preferences functions quite well.
No icons for me either.
Have used Meteorologist for a long time, and when it stopped functioning a few weeks ago, that was sad. So it’s great to see this being brought back.
Using 10.6.8, and even though I have restarted, reinstalled and trashed the plist, the same cities still show up – and when I try to change settings, I see “Active servers” (Not editable); edit cities shows Wunderground.com (and no other choice is available); when I go to the setting for Weather Items, I see weather.com as the checked default, and Wunderground as chooseable – but neither “takes”.
Yesterday, and some days before, I Tried Meteorologist-1.7.0 (7) in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8. and it was working OK except for a few Problems, namely:
1 – The icon in the menu bar doesn’ t change acording to the conditions:
2 – Althought in the preferences it looks possible to have a 9 day forcast, in fact you can only get a 4 day forecast:
However, today, I Tried it again and it would display no information whatsoever for the Cities I had chosen some days ago. Furthermore, when trying to add new cities, the search button did not show any results.
Maybe it is a question related with the Weather Wunderground server…
Thanks for all your Effort. It has been a BLESSING FOR ME…!!!
I have enjoyed using Meteorologist but a few months ago it suddenly quit and I just now found out why and that you have made a new that will work. So I downloaded it and it’s doing the same as the old one did which is not recognizing any cities and says “No Matching Cities Found.”
Thank you, Cindy
1.7.03 (08) does not work on my OS 10.7.5 iMac. It appears to begin starting up, but then it disappears and I have to go into Activity Monitor to kill the process.
Today, I Tried Meteorologist-1.7.0 (8) in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8.
Again when trying to add new cities, the search button did not show any results.
Today, I Tried Meteorologist-1.7.0 (8) in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8.
Everything working as a week ago…!!!
Congratulations and a BIG THANK YOU Jerry !
All the Best
I’ve just Tried Meteorologist-1.7.0 (9) in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8.
No noticeable differences from Meteorologist-1.7.0 (8)…!!!
Today, when I Tried Meteorologist-1.7.0 (9) again in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8, it would display no information whatsoever for the Cities I had chosen some days ago. Furthermore, when trying to add new cities, the search button did not show any results.
The error message in the search red as follows: “Exceeded daily request limit.”
No data from wunderground.com since yesterday [12/10/2015] for either to 2 cities set up. Seems to be problem getting data, otherwise it works. When fix?
Yesterday/(today at 5:00 GMT), after having Tried Meteorologist-1.7.0 (9) with no display of information whatsoever for the Cities I had chosen some days ago, when I was just about to shutdown my Mac, I noticed Meteorologist was running again and displaying information for the Cities again…!!!
Strange policy of WU…!!! ??? !!!
Thanks for all your effort!
I’ve introduced many people to meteo over the years, several who still use it regularly!
I just want you to know your efforts are appreciated, and that you may have many more users than you think!
So far so good! 2014 iMac with 10.10.5 and running smoothly….thanks for your work!
Today, I just Tried the new version of Meteorologist-1.7.0 (10) in my MacBook Pro 17″ (2011 Edition) running Mac OSX 10.6.8.
It is working when configured with Open WeatherMap, but with large shortcomings, Namely:
1 – No weather forecast.
2 – Error in the Present temperature for Porto, PT (it is indicating 27º Celsius, whereas, other sources are unanimously givin 14º C).
Shouldn’t Open WeatherMap give any forecast…???
Upon install on my 10.6.8 system and after removing the plist file I am also receiving Exceeded daily limit and unable to modify the default city, and unable to select my city.
I just downloaded and started 1.7.0, but I still get not weather information.
I am running OS 10.11.2 on my MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2012).
Hope a new “fix” comes along soon, really miss not having Meteorologist.
I think I finally found the error,,,!!!
This is the e-mail I sent to Open WeatherMap Service to ask them to correct it…
I would like to point out an Error in data Display for both Porto, PORTUGAL and Lisbon, PORTUGAL.
The Problem is the Following:
You have taken the wrong data from the Porto and Lisboa Airports Meteo Stations.
The reason is The ICAO code for Porto Intl. Airport is LPPR instead of PHNL (which is the code for Honolulu Int. airport) –> So instead of giving the weather for Porto your service is giving the weather for Honolulu. Solution –> substitute the code PHNL by LPPR.
In a similar manner, The ICAO code for Lisboa Intl. Airport is LPPT instead of EHBK (which is the code for Maastricht Aachen Airport) –> So instead of giving the weather for Lisboa your service is giving the weather for Maastricht. Solution –> substitute the code EHBK by LPPT.
I hope you can use this information to correct your data and I am grateful for your Service.
On waiting for your answer, I thank you in advance.
I have used and loved meteorologist for years, so I was bummed when it stopped showing results and thrilled to find info on the temporary version. I am excited at the prospect of its return to full functionality for those of us using 10.6.8.
On day two I was finally able to select and load my cities without “Exceeded daily request limit” errors.
The menu bar icon never changes.
Icons are not displayed for extended forecast despite toggling.
Weather Alert submenu is blank.
Weather Alerts messages display only city name.
Additional city forecasts seem to be randomly displayed in menu, at times all three are displayed, at times none are displayed, at times one or two.
Excitement at the return of Meteorologist has given way to sadness as the functionality disappears. Today only the city name and the same unchanging icon are displayed – no temperature, no conditions, no forecast, no change when I toggle the options in preferences. Quit and restart does not change anything. Occasionally two or three of the other three cities appear in the menu, also without conditions and forecasts displaying. I miss Meteorologist.

I ditto Briana’s results…running 10.8.5 on an early 2011 15″ MBP. Temp/Humidity numbers just won’t show up, and the list of cities is not there. Here’s hoping you can get those bugs worked out!
Thanks for your efforts!
Tested on 10.10. Crashing for me on startup
Works fine with OSX 10.11.3 beta
Temp also not showing up here (10.11.2)
Sigh, I know I’m a dinosaur but I still NEED os9 and 10.4.x was the last system that will run that natively (I know there is sheepshaver out there, but it is a VERY unstable kludge) …
Is there ANY possibility you can get this to work in os 10.4? I know I know, ‘get a new computer/software’ but what I have works flawlessly and does exactly what I want and need it to do. Explain why ‘upgrading’ a system that is perfect for me is a good idea when ‘upgrading’ will break things I use every day for 90% of the real work I do? …. Your GRANDMOTHER is old too, and you don’t throw her out to ‘upgrade’ to Grandma 2.0 do you?
Thanks for your continuing efforts
Just downloaded 1.7.0 (13) on my iMac running 10.11.2
It can not find Litchfield, NY
Also temperatures are showing numbers way out of whack. It is in the 40’s here, but it shows 77.94°. Every day is different.
Again thanks for your continuing work.
Litchfield, NH Correction to my prior message.
I keep seing several ERRORS in Open WeatherMap Service data Display for several LOCATIONS in PORTUGAL (which have to do with the ICAO CODES for several Portuguese Airports ). I have seen no corrections whatsoever in their data since I last pointed that out to them…
This is the e-mail I sent to Open WeatherMap Service …
” Dear Sirs,
I have already pointed out several ERRORS in data Display for several LOCATIONS in PORTUGAL in your forums which have to do with the ICAO CODES for several Portuguese Airports.
I have seen no corrections whatsoever in your data…
I am grateful for your Service and I would like to know if I can contribute (and in the afirmative case, how…) to correct your data for Portugal.
Best Wishes of a Happy New Year of 2016
Paulo Gali Macedo”
End of message
Best Wishes of a Happy New Year of 2016 to you
This is the answer I got from Ivan (Open WeatherMap Service) …
[Deleted for privacy interests. I want to believe email carries some notion of privacy. Perhaps you could summarize in your own words.]
Best Wishes for 2016
Paulo G. Macedo
The answer I got from Ivan (Open WeatherMap Service), is that it can take some time before the changes are actually implemented.
Best Wishes for 2016
I can’t open the dmg for 1.7.0 (15). It claims there is no mountable filesystem.
Works with OS X 10.11.2 by first going to preferences and deleting the saved cities and doing a new search and adding them back. When I did that, the weather loaded up correctly.
Thank you for the fix!!!
I keep seing several ERRORS in Open WeatherMap Service data Display for several LOCATIONS in PORTUGAL in particular near Porto (where I live and is my flight base). I have seen no corrections whatsoever in their data since I last pointed that out to them…
This image (Desk snapshot sent separately to you by e-mail) Gives you an idea of the discrepacy between the data values given by a Credible Aviation weather data center (from the LPPR – Sá Carneiro – Porto Intl. Airport), given in the form of their METAR, and the values obtained from Open WeatherMap Service for Porto – Portugal:
I Draw your attention to the particular descrepacies in the values of the Temperature (both in Celcius) and the Pressure (both in mBar = hPacal).
Is there any alternative Weather provider, which one could use in Meteorologist to get consistently better and reliable results…?
Paulo Gali Macedo
I’m sorry for having spoken too soon…
I’ve got Bad News Again…
Today, when I switched on Meteorologist 1.7.0(16) this morning, I had no Weather for any of my chosen Places (Porto, Lisbon, London and Salamanca).
When I tried to change the Locations in preferences (using WU as the provider), I was greeted with the same old Message : “Exceeded daily usage limit”…
If I use OpenWeatherMap insteads, as the provider it statrs giving Weather again but with WRONG DATA. As I have already poited out before in a separate e-mail…
SO, NOW I HAVE NO WEATHER INFORMATION I CAN RELY ON…!!!
I don’t know what can I do…!!! Can you give me some advice…?
Thanks for all your effort.
Keep Up the Good Work…!!!
All the Best from
can you add the live radar to Meteorlogist? that would be great
Just a quick note to let you know that I’ve installed Meteo 1.7.0 (17) on a Mac Pro 5.1 Quad-Core (Mid-2010) running OS X 10.8.5 and so far it appears to be running fine.
Thanks for supporting those of us who still have a need to run pre-Mavericks.
Improving more and more, thanks!
I’d like to use km/h units, I can’t get it.
I’ve installed the latest version on my wife’s iMac running 10.6.8. It seems to run flawlessly, but it does keep on reminding her at each startup that there is a new version 2.0 available. Just an FYI. That could be a handy reminder if she ever lets me upgrade her machine, so I’m loath to ask you to remove it.
Thanks so much for continuing with this project. I’m running 2.0 on my iMac with Yosemite, and she runs 1.7 on her Snow Leopard machine.
Doesn’t work on 10.6.8.
